Never published, Persian love elegies by the late Doctor John Wolcot from the original manuscripts written during his residence in Jamaica, 1832.

Manuscript, in a single hand, of a collection of Wolcot's serious and satirical poems and letters by him. The volume includes 13 Persian love elegies; a satirical poem titled The Hall; political verse satires; and several odes, songs, and parodies. It also contains a substantial number of letters, primarily social letters from Wolcot to Thomas Giddy and to Benjamin Nankivell, in which Wolcot describes his attendance at theatrical and musical productions, giving his opinion of Mrs. Siddons's acting and Joseph Haydn's music; provides descriptions of Jamaica; and caricatures his acquaintances. At the end of the volume are two biographical pieces on Wolcot by Edward Collins Giddy.

Peter Pindar is the pseudonym of John Wolcot, an English satirist. From the guide to the Peter Pindar letter to John Walker, 1805-1812, (Ohio University) John Wolcot studied medicine in London, took his M.D. at Aberdeen, and became physician-general of Jamaica. After returning to England, he met the painter John Opie and in 1780 the two moved from Truro to London, where Wolcot devoted himself to the writing of verse satires, mostly published under the name "Peter Pindar." ...
